My
plan for
www.ancestryspace.com is to create a social networking
heredity site where members can create profile pages
containing their family and DNA histories, photos, videos,
documents and more. Such a site will allow users from around
the world to research their heredity and family trees in ways
never before possible.
Here's what
I envision, and I'll use myself as an example. I recently
participated in the National
Geographic Genographic Project and found that I am
haplotype R1A - which is the Viking gene! Very exciting. I had
no idea. I then transferred my DNA results to
ySearch.org which
allowed me to find people from all over the world with DNA
similar to mine. Mainly though, my closest DNA relatives
are from certain areas, including England, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and
Poland. Many are from northern coastal areas of England, which
was invaded and colonized by Vikings starting around 900 A.D.
According to history books, the Vikings made it as far south
as Galicia in Spain, and sure enough I have a couple of DNA
relatives in that region!
Here's how
AncestrySpace.com would work. I create a
profile page at AncestrySpace.com. I may give it a Viking
theme, with customized colors etc. I include my DNA and family
tree information. But just as important, I include photos and
videos of myself, my family, family reunions etc. That way,
other users can find my profile by DNA, name, etc and then see
if there are any resemblances. Currently on the Web there are
a lot of family trees listed. However, they don't do that much
good unless there are photos as well. Such a site could
revolutionize heredity research. A couple of existing sites
have some of these capabilities, but not all of them.
I am
currently seeking partners for help in getting
AncestrySpace.com started. If you can be of help please
contact me at
MilitaryNewsNetwork.com. I am the owner of that site, and
you can find my contact information at the bottom of most
pages. |
